In memory of Nelson Mandela, the Government of Canada announced the launch of the African Leaders of Tomorrow Scholarships. Open to candidates across Africa who are early career professionals working in the public sector, the scholarships will provide opportunities for one to two years study at a Canadian institution to learn about Canadian best practices in governance, public policy, innovation and administration.

Recently, the Tri-Agencies put out a call for consultations on two issues: on open access and on digital scholarship. Under the direction of the board, the Federation made submissions to each of the consultations, highlighting how the Tri-Agencies could bolster their policies moving forward. The Federation’s submissions regarding open access and digital scholarship are available online.

Do you have thoughts on Canada’s digital ecosystem? The Leadership Council for Digital Infrastructure invites you to “have your say”. The Council has launched an online ‘crowdsourcing’ campaign to get fresh ideas on how to build a world-leading digital infrastructure (DI) ecosystem for Canada. Submit your ideas by January 19th, and like or tweet others’ ideas; your input will be presented at the DI Summit on January 28-29, 2014.

Last week on Parliament Hill, Céline Le Bourdais (McGIll University) presented as part of the Federation’s Big Thinking lecture series. Her talk, entitled L’union libre : une alternative ou un substitut au mariage?, explored the significance of common law partnerships, viewed through the lens of the stability of unions and managing shared finances, was an important one to share. Watch the video of Dr. Le Bourdais’ talk here.
