Creating an inviting and supportive learning environment in post-secondary contexts by using an accessibility framework Workshop
Using an accessibility framework, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), this session will provide participants with the opportunity to explore ways to recruit and maintain engagement in teaching through an intersectional lens. Designed for those new to teaching or early career lecturers, this session will model a brief lesson plan for engaging learners in post-secondary contexts using the UDL guideline of engagement. Participants will also have opportunities to discuss first week/first session strategies for creating a positive learning environment, whether it is in physical or virtual learning spaces. Participants will leave the session with concrete ideas and strategies that consider the variability of learner needs and the importance of creating and maintaining engagement with learners in today’s post-secondary learning climate.
