International collaborations are proving increasingly valuable to research, and universities across Canada are looking to establish worldwide linkages through the two-way mobility of talented students.

Mitacs has promoted student mobility through its Globalink program, which has been bringing top-ranked international undergraduates to Canada for research projects since 2009.

This success prompted Mitacs to explore new avenues for cross-border partnerships. We are pleased to announce the launch of the Globalink Research Award, which gives senior undergraduate and graduate students from the social sciences, humanities and STEM disciplines in Canada the chance to undertake research abroad. The award provides up to $5,000 for travel to a partner country (Brazil, China, India, Mexico, Turkey and Vietnam), where students conduct research at an accredited university.

Each project is jointly supervised by faculty members in Canada and the partner country, providing students with cross-cultural expertise. Students develop new skills and gain valuable international experience that will benefit them in their future careers.

The Globalink Research Award is highly flexible:

  • All disciplines are eligible - applicants in the social sciences and humanities are encouraged to apply!
  • Applicants can submit at any time, with decisions typically forwarded within four weeks
  • Open to senior undergraduates,  graduate students  and faculty at Mitacs full and associate partner universities
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students are eligible
  • Projects can last from 12 to 24 weeks

Mitacs Globalink is also launching a number of additional mobility initiatives between Canada and partner countries. Stay tuned for additional announcements throughout 2014!
