75 - Canadian Association of African Studies (CAAS)

The theme for the 2022 CAAS-Conference is "African Societies and Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Decolonization - EDID". The conference theme aims to build on the focus of the 2021 conference on "Achieving Ubuntu: Redefining Equity, Partnership, and Social Change." The ideal of community embodied in the African philosophy of Ubuntu—"I am what I am, because of who we all are"— can only be achieved through concrete actions and programs as they attempt to be embodied in current policies dealing with EDID.
The conference theme is conceived with the understanding that the issue of EDID is not experienced and addressed in the same way, nor with the same political and institutional tools, in Canada, internationally or in African societies and cultures. As is the tradition, papers with an African focus are always welcome at the CAAS Conference. However, we strongly encourage potential participants to submit proposals on the conference theme: "African Societies and EDID: Practices - Challenges - Perspectives".
