CASAE’s Adult Literacy Special Interest Group (SIG) proposes a symposium to examine policy developments that will inform ongoing challenges in adult literacy, particularly for learners and practitioners across Canada. Following our inaugural SIG panel from 2024 where we looked back on the policy changes for adult literacy over the previous decade, our symposium this year continues to
highlight challenges facing the adult literacy field while building greater advocacy and solidarity for and among learners, practitioners, and researchers. The proposed symposium also echoes the CASAE’s conference theme of “reframing togetherness through the spaces and places of adult education” by connecting adult literacy learners, practitioners, and researchers together as we look for opportunities to redefine and reimagine what adult literacy is in Canada. Adult literacy is a critical aspect of adult education research and practice. Our symposium aims to keep CASAE’s attention on the future of adult literacy and the challenges and needs ahead.
