Think forward: Our future, shaped by the humanities and social sciences

Since 2014, the Federation has published reports showcasing the broad scope impacts of the humanities and social sciences (HSS) on society. The most recent, Think Big: How the Social Sciences and Humanities are Building a Better Canada (2021) outlined how HSS scholars address global challenges, support racial and social justice, advance reconciliation efforts, and aid in the adaptation and implementation of new and emerging technologies.

This new series builds on that foundation, examining how HSS disciplines are essential to shaping Canada’s future, addressing emerging challenges, and fostering a more democratic and innovative society.

Think Big (2021)

In November 2021, the Federation released its report, Think Big: How the social sciences and humanities are building a better Canada. Think Big has a single, overriding message for Canada and its elected leaders: we must recognize and support the vital contributions of the humanities and social sciences. The knowledge and skills gained through these disciplines will help Canada strive towards a better future for people across the country and around the world.
