Weaving and knowing: Situating Métis research methodologies within Indigenous research
This workshop introduces participants to Métis research methodologies within the broader context of Indigenous research paradigms. Drawing on the Principles of Ethical Métis Research, we will explore core concepts and approaches emerging from Métis scholarship, including contributions by Bryanna Scott and Jesse Thistle. The session also considers the role of traditional practices—specifically fingerweaving—in Métis ways of knowing. As both a cultural and methodological practice, fingerweaving symbolizes resilience, interconnection, and synthesis. In the second half of the workshop, participants will engage in fingerweaving as a form of experiential learning. This hands-on activity offers an opportunity to reflect on how Métis knowledge systems are transmitted through doing, and how such embodied practices can inform relational approaches to research and professional development.
