The Home I Never Knew (Day 4)
"The Home I Never Knew” is a video installation by Venezuelan artist Sara Vargas Nessi highlighting the distant landscapes of Venezuela. This installation explores emotional connections to places and the evolving significance of home. Ten years after leaving her home country, the artist recalled her father’s stories about Venezuela’s natural wonders—places she had never visited. She realized she only appreciated her home after she left and became curious to learn more. Unfortunately, the political situation and remote locations mean most Venezuelans will see these places only in photos and videos. The dreamlike scenes portraying Venezuela’s landscapes in an abstract style are based on reference photos and inspired by her father’s travels in the 1980s. The Home I Never Knew will be projected onto the balcony at 3 Lower Jarvis St. nightly. Viewers are also invited to see the original paintings used for the videos. The paintings are located in the bridge connecting GBC's Limberlost building with 51 Dockside Dr.
