Toward A Decolonial Framework for Artificial Intelligence
In my session, I will address two main issues: 1) can we reimagine artificial intelligence through Kānaka ‘Ōiwi (Native Hawaiian) knowledge systems to challenge colonial practices and advance the ethical integration of community-driven technologies, and 2) Is the domination of artificial intelligence inevitable, or is that inevitability a colonial imposition to further constrain our agency? Each issue is pertinent in addressing how we, as Indigenous Peoples, can assert more agency in the era of artificial intelligence, push back against the epistemic dominance of subjugating systems, and ensure the survival of our people, lands, and culture.
