I agree that anti-transgender discourse has had a historical through line in which a metaphorical discourse of transness as sickness and corruption of the body politic is used to accentuate concerns regarding the health of the state by drawing attention to a supposed uptick in the frequency or power of transgender persons. This talk will be of interest to those who work on the history of transgender identity as well as though interested in narratives of corruption and sickness in political thought.
