Public Transformations: Reimagining Graduate Education in the Social Sciences and Humanities
This proposed CAGS roundtable, “Public Transformations: Reimagining Graduate Education in the Social Sciences and Humanities,” will bring together thought leaders from across the Canadian graduate studies ecosystem for a forward-looking discussion about the future of SSH education. The expected outcomes of this roundtable are twofold. First, it will offer a timely overview of the current state of SSH graduate research and education in Canada, identifying some key challenges and opportunities confronting the sector today. Second, the roundtable will articulate a series of calls to action for reimagining SSH graduate education in Canada. These calls will be directed toward graduate students, faculty supervisors, and decanal leaders, and will emphasize core principles such as compassionate supervision, flexible and relevant program design, expanded opportunities for experiential and community-engaged learning, and stronger engagement with alumni networks. Together, the speakers will outline a renewed, public-facing vision of SSH graduate training that is collaborative, inclusive, and deeply connected to the world it seeks to understand and improve.
