This session explores how multisensory, community-based research can centre Indigenous voices and lived experiences in urban maternal health contexts. Drawing on research with Indigenous midwives, birth workers, and families in Calgary, Alberta, the presentation highlights three central themes: (1) the role of multisensory and community-engaged approaches in amplifying community voices; (2) the importance of social science research and knowledge mobilization in strengthening interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral partnerships; and (3) the significance of ethical, relational research practices when working alongside Indigenous community partners. This session will be valuable for researchers, policymakers, healthcare providers, and community practitioners interested in community partnerships, storytelling, and Indigenous maternal health. Participants will leave with practical insights into how Indigenous knowledge and social science methodologies can inform more culturally safe, responsive, and equitable health systems, as well as strategies for building ethical, long-term partnerships grounded in trust and accountability.
