Queer Marronage as a Strategy for Black Liberation
Black liberation also means Black queer liberation and Black queer marronage. At GBC, Black futures Initiatives has adapted maroon technologies in our approach to dealing with anti-Black racism, and white supremacy. Originating from self-liberation practices and communities of the formerly enslaved, this technology brings together in solidarity all communities escaping harm from the forces of colonialism and white supremacy. This is our re-worlding approach. For Congress 2025, we have assembled a panel of academics and artist-scholars to engage in a conversation relating queerness to marronage (the act of refusal, escape, resistance including the formation of Black and queer relations and spaces). We wish to extend the understanding of radical Black place-making to what it means to perform queer marronage and to think through guerilla strategies useful for Black queer and trans liberation in particular, and Black liberation in its entirety. Join us for a discussion with Dr. Ronald Cummings, Dr. d’bi Anitafrika Young and Ravyn Wngz and a brief performance by d’bi Young.
