Gathering strategies for action 2: Recruitment and retention of faculty
An open event at Congress 2018
This special open event at Congress 2018 "Gathering Diversities" brings together scholars to discuss obstacles and strategies for the recruitment and retention of faculty members from racialized and other equity-seeking groups in Canadian universities. The session will consider this important goal through a race, gender, LGBTQ, and disability lens, applying an intersectional frame to an otherwise practical problem. What is the current state of affairs in the post-secondary system and how are humanities and social sciences faring? Where have Canadian universities successfully championed the issue and advanced its implementation? What are the lessons for best practices and how could these be shared? The aim is to identify current challenges, demonstrate how change is possible, and share strategies for ways forward.
Featured panelists:
Malinda Smith, Professor, Political Science, University of Alberta
Michelle Owen, Associate Professor, Sociology, University of Winnipeg
Wesley Crichlow, Professor, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Ontario Institute of Technology
Vianne Timmons, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Regina
