Starting in the mid-1980s, when he became US ambassador to Hungary, Nicolas M. Salgo built up one of the most important collections of Hungarian art outside Hungary. He later established the “Salgo Trust for Education,” a main goal of which is to promote knowledge of Hungarian art outside Hungary, and in North America in particular. This keynote address offers a history of The Salgo Trust and reflects on their efforts to promote, and place, Hungarian art in North America.
