About the event

The upcoming 2025 Canadian federal election is a critical moment for the social sciences and humanities in Canada. With their role in society and policymaking increasingly under question in Canadian politics, it is vital to reaffirm their value in shaping evidence-informed policies and addressing the nation’s most pressing challenges.

On February 20th, 2025, Evidence for Democracy (E4D) and the Federation for Humanities and Social Sciences (FHSS) are co-hosting an evening non-partisan panel event at Impact Hub Ottawa to foster a diverse and dynamic conversation on the role of the social sciences and humanities in society. Bringing together leaders from academia, policy, and the broader research community, this event will highlight the indispensable contributions of these disciplines and discuss strategies to advocate for their importance. Participants will engage in a thought-provoking panel discussion with experts and leave with tangible policy outcomes and actionable take-home lessons for the sector.
