Mélanie Boucher

Mélanie Boucher is a professor of museology and art history at the Université du Québec en Outaouais (UQO), where she holds the Institutional Research Chair in the Promotion of Artistic, Cultural, and Museum Transformations. Her work focuses on transformations in contemporary museum collections and practices, particularly with regard to issues of sustainability, inclusion, social justice, and the recognition of underrepresented artistic practices.

She also directs the CIÉCO-UQO Research Cluster, the Art and Museum Team (FRQSC 2022–2030), the project Documentary Requalification in Contemporary Art (SSHRC 2026–2029), and one of the four research streams of the Partnership New Uses of Collections in Art Museums (SSHRC 2021–2028). Through these roles, she contributes to the development of collaborations bringing together universities, museums, artists, and cultural organizations in Canada and internationally.

Before embarking on her academic career, Mélanie Boucher gained extensive professional experience in exhibition design and catalog publishing, collaborating with internationally renowned artists and national museums.

Since joining UQO, she has secured, either independently or in collaboration with others, more than $7 million in research funding. She mentors graduate students and postdoctoral researchers whose work focuses on contemporary transformations in museums and collections.
