The Federation extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Ted Hewitt for his service as President of the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC), and for the leadership he has provided to Canada’s humanities and social sciences (HSS) community over more than a decade.

Ted Hewitt’s tenure coincided with significant change across the research landscape in Canada and globally. Throughout this period, he remained closely engaged with the Federation’s work. From his participation in the Federation’s annual Congresses to his support for programs that have since become cornerstones of what we do, Ted Hewitt has been central to what the Federation has built for and with the HSS community.

As a champion for the HSS, he helped strengthen their collective voice across the country, reinforcing the place of HSS scholarship within Canada’s research ecosystem and public life.

The Federation also recognizes Ted Hewitt’s leadership as a member and Chair of the Canada Research Coordinating Committee (CRCC) and the Tri-agency Institutional Programs Secretariat (TIPS) Steering Committee, which was pivotal in elevating HSS within federal research ecosystem and contributed to Canada’s global standing in these disciplines.

The Federation looks forward to working with Dr. Normand Labrie and Dr. Sylvie Lamoureux throughout this transition, and to continued collaboration with SSHRC in support of our shared mission for Canada’s humanities and social sciences.
