Who You Callin Black Eh? began as a theatre piece produced at the Toronto Fringe Festival in 2019. The script was inspired by undergraduate-aged women who struggled to affirm their Blackness—sometimes to the point of emotional distress. Described as “a coming-of-age story, not about sexuality but about race,” the play received the Teen Jury Award at the Fringe. During the COVID-19 lockdown, the project evolved into a Digital Now recording supported by the Canada Council, alongside a web-based interactive study guide developed in collaboration with researchers at Mount Saint Vincent and Western Universities. This workshop invites participants to view the play and engage in dialogue around new modes of learning, arts-based research, identity, social isolation, togetherness, anti-racism education, self-worth, body image, and the diverse career paths involved in the Who You Callin Black Eh? Project.
