Inclusive Leadership: Beyond Policy for Intentional Change
To achieve equity, organizations must embrace inclusionary leadership that actions inclusionary practices and promotes diversity and decolonization. This requires knowledge mobilization and co-creation of inclusionary practices across academia, government, and civil society. This session has two intended outcomes: 1. Participants will generate and share effective collaborative approaches to inclusive leadership and inclusive practices that advance equity and promote reconciliation. 2. Participants will make connections to further research into inclusive leadership, inclusive practices and identify possible collaborations designed to advance inclusion and equity in higher education and beyond. This dialogue is intended to elicit participant experiences and intentions that transcend policy, and action change through interdisciplinary collaboration, empirical research, and meaningful engagement of scholar-practitioners and leaders. Following the illumination of one such collaboration between multiple disciplines, which resulted in empirical data, shared resources, and engaged scholarly discussions, this session hopes to generate additional strategies and reveal initiatives that prompted change in practice in other organizations. Our intention is to create a network of academics and practitioners focussed on the goal of more inclusive and equitable working and learning environments. By problematizing data points from the study, open-ended questions will guide the facilitated discussion and generate a list of proven or anticipated strategies being utilized across Canada and the broader academic community. Participant responses will be captured and made available to all participants
