The Tom Jenkins-led expert panel on research and development in the private sector has released a report calling for changes to the government’s funding scheme for business innovation. Specifically, the report advises the government to rebalance the proportion of direct to indirect support it provides and allocate more money for start-ups to promote the implementation of Canadian-developed technology. Paul Davidson, president of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC), argues that Canada has much to gain from international education and must act now to position itself as the destination of choice for top students and researchers from around the world.
