André Grace, a professor of education at the University of Alberta, is being honoured with the Killam Professorship this year for his work directing the University of Alberta’s Institute for Sexual Minority Studies and Services, which educates youth in the community about the importance of inclusiveness of LGBTQI2-S people. Grace is working to develop different initiatives that can make communities and schools safer for LGBTQI2-S kids.

The Harvard Gazette published an article profiling Digital Humanities scholar Jeffrey Schnapp. Schnapp, who is a professor of Romance languages and literature, uses the Internet and digital technologies to create bridges between disciplines and break out of the silos that sometimes form in academia.

Researchers at York University are questioning the implications of excluding “race” as a social determinant of health. According to their research, the socially constructed category of race does affect access to health care, and none of the pre-existing categories can adequately address race.

The University of Manitoba recently released a series of videos featuring Gerry Bowler, a professor of history, on the social origins of Santa Claus. Gerry Bowler is the author of “Santa Claus: A Biography.”
