This fireside chat features a conversation with Hon. Jean Augustine and Professor Carl James (Jean Augustine Chair, Faculty of Education). The chat provides an opportunity to learn from Augustine, her perspectives on how her presence in and contributions to the historical, political, social, educational, and cultural life of Canada – particularly, in areas of immigrant settlement, community leadership, teaching and education leadership, parliamentary life and undertakings, and Canadian life generally in terms of equity, social justice, and international relations. With her experiences as reference, the conversation with Dr. Augustine will provide insights into the systems and structures that have operated to bring into existence life in Canada today and that of racialized and Black people in particular. The conversation will be animated by a visual display of a selection of Augustine’s fonds borrowed from the Clara Thomas Archives and Special Collections at the Scott Library.
